Technology for Young Moms/HOPE VENTURES
When launched in 2014, Technology Mentoring for Young At-Risk Mothers expanded iSisters’ workshops into the new Salvation Army Bethany Hope Centre for Young Parent Families. Students gained digital literacy skills which enabled them to return to and succeed in high school and prepare for employment. The program built community capacity to support at-risk, young parents.
Technology Mentoring for Young At-Risk Mothers is now the key technology piece of the new Hope Ventures Program. Hope Ventures is designed to encourage young parents to explore and advance within the world of business and entrepreneurship. Young mothers work with and are mentored by the iSisters iTechnology Instructor to develop computer skills to enable them to return to and succeed in high school, and to prepare for employment or entrepreneurship.
The new Hope Ventures program gives young parents access to many resources at Bethany Hope Centre. Young parents are offered in class and one-on-one support to learn the basic fundamentals of running a small business, which has engaged them tremendously.
Through this collaborative project with our partner Bethany Hope, our goal is to offer young at-risk Moms a full set of digital and media literacy skills, as well as mentoring in new communications technologies, free of charge to them and to Bethany Hope, in a familiar and safe environment.
