iSisters’ programs provide real, measurable results to the women who attend them. For our learners who often may feel they have no way out of their current situation, being able to make the first step up the ladder of success to a new future is an important outcome of our courses. Time and time again, our learners reinforce that in addition to the technical skills and knowledge they gain, the most important achievement is building their own self-confidence.
“C” was a 14 year-old student from Kenya who had been gang-raped on her way home from church before coming to Canada. Now in Ottawa with a two-year-old, she is working on her high school diploma. “C” was unable to read due to a reading disability and could not make out words. She is now using assistive technology with mentoring from iSisters to access curriculum. Her confidence has gone way up and she is hoping to obtain her GED. She is very smart and wants to go into nursing.
